しくじる、大失敗する blow it
Rachel: (At the front door) "Tadaima," Kenichi!
Kenichi: "Okaeri," Rachel! Dinner's ready!
Rachel: Let's go out!
Kenichi: (Comes out of the kitchen) But I made dinner for us.
Rachel: What is it?
Kenichi: Beef stew.
Rachel: Then can we leave it for tomorrow? I really want to go out tonight.
Kenichi: Why? It's really cold out.
Rachel: I blew it at work and want to blow off some steam. Pun not intended.
Kenichi: What did you do?
Rachel: I promised a client that I would pass on a message to my boss, which I forgot to do. Then my boss got in trouble with the client, who cancelled their account with us, and you can imagine the trouble that got me into. At least the client was ultimately convinced into coming back to us, but I totally blew it this time.
Kenichi: It sounds like you did.
Rachel: So please can we go out for drinks?
Kenichi: I guess so. (Jokingly) But I could argue that if forgetting things is what's getting you into trouble at work, then maybe you should lay off the alcohol and protect your brain cells ...
Rachel: Oh, come on, I just need you to come out with me!
