    今週のフレーズ under wraps

Sean: Good morning, guys. Hey, is something wrong, Anne?

Anne: You noticed? I thought I was succeeding in keeping my sadness under wraps during the working day.

Saori: I thought you seemed kind of down, too.

Anne: Our dog back in the States had to be put down.

Sean: Oh, I'm so sorry to hear that. How old was it?

Anne: We adopted him from a shelter, so we're not really sure, but we think he was around 9.

Saori: I'm sorry, I'm not sure what "being put down" means here.

Sean: It means Anne's dog was put to sleep.

    Anne: Forever. He was euthanized.

Saori: Oh, that's so sad. What was his name?

Anne: Chester. He had tumors all over his body by the time the vet caught it. They said he could've undergone chemo, but his quality of life would've been horrible and it would've only prolonged his life for a little longer.

Saori: (Gives Anne a hug) Are you OK?

Anne: (Blows her nose) At least I was able to video chat with my parents and Chester one last time, but now I'm definitely not keeping my cool.
