3 mil. yen 55-year-old whisky to go on sale
How much do you like whisky? If you're willing to shell out 3 million yen, plus tax, for a top-notch tipple, then Suntory Spirits Ltd. has just the bottle of amber joy for you: a 55-year-old single malt Yamazaki, announced by the distiller on Jan. 30.
Just 100 bottles of "The Yamazaki" will be produced, and are set to go on sale in Japan at the end of June.
According to the Suntory Holdings Ltd. subsidiary, the unblended malt whisky has been maturing in white and Mizunara oak since before 1964, the year of the previous Tokyo Olympics and Paralympics. Its 55 years in the barrel makes The Yamazaki the oldest whisky Suntory has ever sold.
The company explained that the limited whisky is characterized by a reddish, deep amber color, rich fruit scents and a sweet aftertaste.
