今週のフレーズ at the end of the day

Sean: Anne, what happened to the people in your building who're always yelling at each other?

Anne: Oh, the couple who live right below me? It's mostly the guy who yells. And he still does.

Saori: Do you think someone's getting beaten up, too?

Anne: Not that I can tell. But I once sent the woman a brochure explaining how domestic violence comes in all forms, not just physical violence, at the cafe that she runs. I didn't want to put it in her mailbox at home and risk having her partner find it.

Saori: Did you get a response?

Anne: She wrote back saying she was surprised when she got mail from me at her workplace, and that she laughed when she opened the envelope because my concerns didn't apply to her.

Sean: So she's denying she's being battered.

Anne: Yeah. And the brochure says that screaming at someone can constitute violence. And the way he yells at her is so horrible that I can't help but think she's a victim, you know?

Sean: At the end of the day, you can't help her unless she recognizes that she needs help.

Saori: Yeah, you've done what you can.
