Japan needs a modern 'mottainai' revolution
There are various phrases and concepts in Japanese that don't translate easily into English. One of my favorites is that of "mottainai," which evokes an aversion to wastefulness. It's a wonderful idea that in recent years has even become somewhat known outside of Japan, making those in other countries believe that Japan is leading the world in reducing waste. Unfortunately, this is not exactly true.
