3 boys referred to child consultation center for pushing fishermen into sea

OSAKA -- Three junior high school boys accused of pushing anglers into the sea earlier in September have told investigators that they enjoyed seeing their victims drowning, investigators said.

"We wanted to enjoy seeing the faces of those who were drowning," one of the boys was quoted as telling police during questioning.

Osaka Prefectural Police have referred the three 12- to 13-year-old boys to a child consultation center for allegedly assaulting and inflicting bodily injury on their victims.

At around 6 a.m. on Sept. 19, the three pushed a 13-year-old, second-year junior high school boy into the sea while the victim was fishing in Kishiwada, Osaka Prefecture, police allege.

They also spoke to a 56-year-old man from Yao, Osaka Prefecture, who was fishing in Tadaoka, Osaka Prefecture, saying, "Have you caught some fish?" about an hour after the first incident. They then allegedly pushed the man into the sea, leaving him with slight injuries.

Another 13-year-old boy was at these scenes, but police only reported the boy to the child consultation center because he was not involved in the incidents.

The four attend the same junior high school. The three who have been referred to the child consultation center had planned two days earlier to push anglers into the sea.
