Kyoto Tower is aglow in a variety of colors as the beloved landmark in front of JR Kyoto Station is illuminated by LED projectors during a lighting ceremony on the evening of March 14, 2016. For seasonal events and social awareness promotions, the tower in Shimogyo Ward will be lit up in a multitude of color combinations, with up to 16.7 million patterns available using the three primary colors of light -- red, green and blue. Compared to the 50 halogen projectors that used to illuminate the tower, the 20 new LED projectors made by Panasonic Corp. require around 70 percent less electricity, according to tower operators.
